Arthouse Summer continues and takes to the high seas with Johnny Depp in the role that would be one of the first iconic characters of the 21st Century in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. In 2003, Walt Disney Pictures set out to rebrand it's live action film department in the fantasy adventure craze of the early aughts. Teaming with mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, they laid out a daring new vision of their popular theme park ride and turned into one of 2003's most talked about summer blockbusters. But did the film deserve the admiration it recieved from critics and audiences or should it have sunk to Davy Jones' Locker? MovieDude Eric, Kent and Chris hoist the black sails to find out.
