In 1931, Universal Studios released two horror films that would become immediate box office smashes and would start the first cinematic universe and a whole new genre of horror. One of those films was James Whale's Frankenstein. With such success, Universal ordered a sequel to be made (a very rare thing at the time), bringing back the director along with actors Colin Clive and the breakout star of the original film, Boris Karloff. While the sequel is considered the more iconic of the two films, based off one of literature's first gothic horror novels, do these films hold up as worthy of their iconic status or should the torches and pitchforks be at the ready?
