In 1977, independent filmmaker George Lucas took on his most ambitious project yet, an homage of science fiction serials of the 1950 utilizing new visual techniques not yet tested on film and under a very constrictive budget. What would come of it has become a worldwide phenomenon simply known as Star Wars.
